Biography

Jeffrey Cohn is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Intelligent Systems at the University of Pittsburgh, Courtesy Professor of Computer Science at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, and Chief Scientist and Co-Founder of Deliberate.ai. He leads interdisciplinary and inter-institutional efforts to develop advanced methods of automatic analysis and synthesis of facial expression and prosody and applies those tools to research in human emotion, social development, and psychopathology. His research has been supported by grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and U.S. National Science Foundation, among other sponsors.

He co-developed influential databases (e.g., Cohn-Kanade, UNBC Pain Archive, BP4D) and software (e.g., Tian et al., 2021; IntraFace, PyAFAR); co-chaired ACM ICMI 2014,AAAS ACII 2009, and IEEE FG multiple years; and for 10 years chaired the FG Steering Committee. He is a Fellow of AAAS. He served on the Editorial Board of IEEE PAMI and co-edited special issues on affective computing for ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems and others.
